Guo Ai Lun-Terrence Romeo: A exciting matchup we might never see again

While I was watching the replay of the Philippines vs China in the last year Fiba Asia Championship, I can’t help but notice this young guard of China named Guo Ai Lun.

I was like “Damn, He’s really good”. But on the other hand, I also see Terrence romeo doing his thing against China which is not quite surprising because I have seen him play in the PBA and I know what he can do.

So after watching them play, I can’t help but notice and compare the both of them, knowing that romeo is one of the Future of Philippine Basketball and Guo is also the future of Chinese basketball.

Guo Ai Lun is a 6’4, 22 year old Guard of China  he is currently playing in the Liaoning Flying Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). In the latest season of the CBA, Guo averages 13.7 PPG, 5.1 APG and 2.9 RPG and is showing brilliance in the whole league.

Guo is a Cat quick guard which can shoot three ball, can slash into the basket using his speed and has a good court vision which makes him as their starter for the Chinese National Team also he could play both Shooting and Point Guard position

on the other hand, We have Terrence Romeo who is a 5’11, 24 year old guard of the Philippines, Currently he is playing for the Global Port batang pier in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Romeo averages 24.8 PPG, 3.7 APG and 4.3 RPG and making a huge buzz in the Philippine basketball lately.

Romeo is an electric point guard who has a pretty good handle, he even was tagged as “Kyrie Irving of the Philippines” because of his handles. But unlike Guo, Terrence is more of a Score-first guard but also can play the Point guard position which makes him a huge asset for the Gilas Lineup.

In their first ever match-up Guo got the better of Terrence by beating the Philippines to clinch the spot for the Olympics. But it’s the first stint of Romeo in the National team while Guo already had a couple of stints in the Chinese national team, if Romeo still improved in the International scene, I am sure these two will be fun to watch

but it makes me wonder, will we see another match-up between these two electric guards?

As we all know, after the FIBA World Cup, The format will be changed and it’s going to hit the Philippines hard (http://basketball.ca/en/news-article/fiba-announces-new-format-and-calendar-of-competition-p152611).

The possible solution that Manny V. Pangilinan (Owner of Gilas Pilipinas) has presented is that we go back to the Gilas Cadet program in which we are going to select people who are not yet drafted to enter the program and commit themselves to Gilas thus resulting for them not to enter the PBA draft.

Once this pushes thru, it will hard to see any PBA players compete and play for Gilas because of the schedule of FIBA and their mother team might not allow it.

But I hope our basketball governing bodies would find a way to fix the scheduling problems and let Gilas have it’s full potential, and that is why I am not losing hope for another Romeo-Guo Ai Lun match-up in the future.

The Filipinos are Tired

It’s now 3 days before the Philippines will select their next leaders to lead our country into greater heights.

But among the Presidential Candidates there is one man who is making a lot of noise in the media, whether Positive or Negative. I guess you guys know who I’m referring to..

Yes, it’s Rodrigo “Rody” Roa Duterte

Photo grabbed on http://www.Philstar.com

Currently he is leading in the Survey with a 33% behind Poe’s 22% (According to the Social weather Stations). It’s a big margin if you are going to see and it looks like that Duterte has the biggest chance on winning the Presidential election (Well it depends if you’re one firm believer of the surveys) and not to mention he already got the backing of the Iglesia ni Cristo or the INC which is a huge factor in this presidential race.

Anyway, There are really some people asking: Why is Duterte garnering such many supporters?

I really don’t have the exact answer on why but I guess this might be one of the reason why a Mayor from Davao who is not popular back then garners so many supporters.

“The Filipinos are tired”

The Filipinos are tired on having the same Elitist president who is really having a hard time on reaching out on the people below him.

The Filipinos now want change in the look of the government, they now want a president who could relate on the middle class and even the lower class. There has been so many administrations on which Elite Presidents took place and same results are just happening, there is progress but mostly people from the Class A’s are the one who benefits in such progress.

And Duterte is not an Elitist, he is just living a simple life on a simple house in Davao which really admired by a lot of people. Now the Supporters thinks that if Duterte would won the presidency, he could reach out to the people of the Middle classes and even those who are below.

The Filipinos are tired with the promises but lacks in action and political will.

There are many presidential candidates who promises us this and that but eventually after they became president, those promises are just kept hanging. Why? Because there are times that the plans of the president is “napopolitika” and the president can’t enforce his political will to continue the said projects because he is being held by a lot people thus he/she can’t make a strong and firm decision and let the hands do the job.

Duterte is known for his strong political will, people from davao said that Mayor Rodrigo really uses his power just to continue a said plan for the benefit of his people in davao. Yes as we all witnessed in the recent debates, Mayor Duterte said that he won’t have a lot of platforms and he just might copy the platforms of the other candidates but he added that what he can bring into this country is political will and his leadership.

I think it’s what the Philippines need right now, because many candidates promises to do such things but only few of them are done due to lack of political will. The Philippines doesn’t need more programs and platforms because there are a lot of good platforms which are not done in the past administration, what it needs is a leader who is ready to continue those projects for the betterment of not just few people but the majority of the Filipinos.

The Filipinos are tired on the Politicians who are very neat and tidy on the outside but dirty on the inside.

There are so many administrations on which the presidents are decent, good in english, doesn’t use foul language in their campaign rallies but then they are involved into many anomalities.

Filipinos are already tired of them, now they want something new, a candidate who never hold his tongue on his campaign rallies, being true to himself, doesn’t care even he loses supporters because he said what he really said and most of all a president who is simple.

Duterte has been in the news for so many times because of what he’s saying during his campaign rallies (The Pope Issue, The rape joke which actually isn’t a “joke” because he is only narrating what had happened in the past, his use of foul language, and of course some dirty jokes) but it doesn’t seem to faze his supporters, well maybe there are some who jumped ship because of those, but it’s only few and it didn’t affect his rating at all.

Anyway what I’m trying to say is that Duterte is very true to himself and he is not afraid in exposing his weaknesses. Many Supporters Loved him for that because they knew that this guy speaks the truth. So I guess Filipinos are tired on the clean looking but so many secrets type of politician and wants a candidate who is true to himself at all times.

Lastly I think Filipinos are tired on the crime and corruption inside and outside of the government.

Majority of the Filipinos think that Duterte is the right man for the job if we want to fix the Government from the inside and as a man of Discipline, we all think that he can enforce the law strongly compared to other candidates. Once the corruption inside the government stops and people have become disciplined and afraid to disobey the law, then I think we can now fully continue building the Philippines into a great nation.

Why Sanchir’s Stint in Ginebra Bad for Philippine Basketball and Good for Mongolia

Before the start of the Governor’s Cup Ginebra tapped Sanchir Tungalag of Mongolia to be their Asian import.

Sanchir averaged 16.6 Points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.18 assist per game during the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. But when the Governors Cup came he only averages 4.5 points, 1.0 rebound for Ginebra. also there was this “benching” incident that gains the ire of the fans not just local but also fans of sanchir in Mongolia. The main reason why he is not being used by Coach Frankie Lim is because of ‘Language barriers’. Today, reports came that this will be his last game with Ginebra. It also said there that the new Asian Import of Ginebra will arrive Monday.

Now with Sanchir’s stint in Ginebra, I think this would have a bad effect on the PBA and Good for Mongolia. Why is it bad for the PBA and Good for Mongolia?

Sanchir is a well known player in Mongolia, he is considered as one of the best in basketball when it comes to their country. After hearing that he’s being tapped by Ginebra, many Mongolian fans were happy because it is rare to see a Mongolian player to play in a League like this. Many fans, local or Mongolian fans expected a lot on Sanchir. But when the Governors Cup Started, He was not being used by Ginebra and only played limited minutes. Fans were wondering why he was not getting the minutes. So every after game, Local and even Mongolian fans are ranting on the internet on why Sanchir is benched and not used. Netizens commented that Sanchir could produce more if he was given the minutes he deserves.

With this, I think it’s a bad publicity for PBA especially towards the Mongolian fans because they knew that Sanchir got the potential and yet he was not being used. I mean how could not they be frustrated, your country’s best player is not being used in a League. It’s like benching a Jayson Castro in a foreign League, I’m sure a lot of Filipino fans would also be frustrated if that happens, I mean like the best point guard of Asia will be benched on a team in a foreign league that’s bulls**t right? So I guess that’s how the Mongolian Fans felt towards the PBA and Ginebra after they saw what Ginebra did to their star player, So I guess I can’t blame them.

But there is also a positive thing on Sanchir’s Stint here in the PBA. With his stint, he was able to represent Mongolia to the Filipino People. Mongolia is very foreign for a lot of people, because Mongolia doesn’t have any person who are actually known across the world (well except for Genghis Khan, but that was ages ago). Also Mongolia is a underdeveloped country even though it’s in the middle of two Giants: China and Russia. Mongolia is still on the verge of development and still has a long way to go before they could be developed like their Neighboring Countries. But comparing to the Philippines, we are more developed than them. So I guess that’s one major factor on why Mongolia is very foreign to a lot of people but with the help of Sanchir, Filipino Basketball fans were able to notice not just Sanchir Tungalag’s basketball skills but also Sanchir’s Mother country, Mongolia.
